You are invited to nominate your favorite local community nonprofit that has 501(c)(3) status by filling out the form below. At the end of each month, a member of our staff will randomly select one entry, and we’ll donate $1,000 to them!

Clothing Connection
The Clothing Connection provides clothing to Salem children. Working with schools and caregivers, we choose clothing with each child’s sensory and style preferences in mind. In early childhood and elementary schools, we use a forms model, allowing staff and caregivers to request exactly what a child needs/wants. In middle and high school we use a closet model, allowing teenagers to choose their clothes. Founded in 2016, we currently serve all Salem’s elementary schools, the Early Childhood Center, Collins Middle School, and Salem High School, and work with the district’s Homeless Liaison.

North Shore Breakers
North Shore Breakers is a nonprofit girls softball organization that relies on fundraisers. North Shore Breakers makes sure that no player is left behind by assisting players obtain uniforms and equipment as well as participate in tournaments. They have players on scholarship so no one is turned away from playing competitive softball. All of the coaching staff are volunteers. North Shore Breakers will use the funds for uniforms for the players for 2022.

Susan G. Komen is the only organization that addresses breast cancer on multiple fronts such as research, community health, global outreach and public policy initiatives in order to make the biggest impact against this disease. Cranney Home Services is proud to award our $1000 Cranney Cares donation to Marblehead Scholarships. Marblehead Scholarships, administered by the Rotary Club of Marblehead Harbor, offers scholarships for both the “college bound” and the “upward bound”.
“College Bound” are enhanced scholarship for students seeking a multi-year college degree. “Upward bound” is a second chance scholarship for those seeking to improve their employment. Founded in 2006 by RCOMH Board of Directors to provide a permanent funding source for scholarships. (C2H) is a unique service dog training program specializing in guided/assisted self-training of service dogs working with combat veterans from all wars who are suffering and diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress (PTS), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) or Military Sexual Trauma (MST). Our experienced professional all-volunteer training staff works with the Veteran and their dog to train and certify them as a service dog team to perform tasks and help alleviate many of the symptoms combat Veterans battle daily. Company 2 Heroes is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization entirely funded by the generous contributions from the community’s public support. We are an ALL VOLUNTEER program, and there is no charge to the Veteran for participation. It is our duty, honor and privilege to give back to those who have given so much. The program is designed to work with the individual veteran to train their own dog or rescue (of proper age, size and temperament) to perform the specialized functions that will provide much needed assistance, independence and companionship necessary in helping those suffering from PTS, TBI or MST. We welcome all Veterans who wish to improve their own independence through the use of a service dog.

Newhall Fields Community Farm
Newhall Fields Community Farm is an agricultural gem in an urban setting for all of us to visit, cultivate, and enjoy. Accessible and beautiful, it fosters community spirit and encourages ‘learning on the land’ by cultivating farmland, preparing soil, planting seeds, raising and harvesting food, volunteering, educating, and hosting community events. Between May and October of 2020, Newhall Fields Community Farm has donated over 1,720 pounds of produce to Haven from Hunger, utilizing over 1,000 hours of volunteer work and around $6,000 in individual donations to make the work happen. It has been a labor full of love for our community struggling under the challenges of COVID-19, particularly when it comes to putting nutritious, organic, healthy and affordable food on every table. This CranneyCares gift will be immediately and tangibly impactful as Newhall Fields creates a crop plan for the spring and seeks additional resources to make it more efficient and impactful for our community. Acord Food Pantry
Acord Food Pantry was founded in 1991 with the mission of empowering individuals and families to feed themselves in a nutritionally balanced way. We are a green, nondenominational, grassroots organization supporting the residents of Essex, Hamilton, Ipswich, Manchester, Topsfield and Wenham. We are a fully self-supported pantry and fill our shelves through food and monetary donations: as well as private, business and community grants. We serve our clients with the help of over 120 volunteers each month. We offer all of our clients both non-perishable items and perishable items such as milk, eggs, cheese, yogurt, meat, fish and fresh produce. We truly value the support of those in our community who have helped to keep our shelves stocked for over 29 years.

Citizens Inn
Citizens Inn breaks the patterns of instability that lead to homelessness and hunger for every individual served. They currently house 35 families experiencing homelessness at the Inn Between and Inn Transition and feed thousands of families from the North Shore who are food insecure at their Haven from Hunger food pantry and meals program. This gift will go to immediate use towards additional expenses due to COVID-19. “We are experiencing a 300% increase in new registrations over the past few months at our food pantry. We have increased PPE, cleaning supplies, transportation and staffing costs all due to COVID-19. The Friends of the Sawyer Free Library
The Friends of the Sawyer Free Library are the recipients of our January Cranney Cares $1000 donation! The Friends provide funding for local adult, teen and children’s programs. They also provide discounted tickets for area museums, the New England Aquarium, and Massachusetts Parks.

Congratulations to our February Cranney Cares winner NEER North!! Since April 2008, “NEER North has been helping horses and owners in crisis, primarily in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. In January 2011, the rescue became a volunteer-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and remains dedicated to rescuing horses who are abused, neglected, or at-risk of slaughter. The Colton Buckley Foundation was established in July 2016 by Colton’s family after he tragically lost his battle with addiction in April of 2016. Every November the Foundation hosts Colton Buckley 5K and everything they raise from the 5k goes to help Citizens Inn develop and build a children’s enrichment program. Woman’s Friend Society
Congratulations to our most recent Cranney Cares winner, Woman’s Friend Society! the Woman’s Friend Society provides assistance to women through the maintenance of a house donated to the Society by Jennie Emmerton and her father, Captain John Bertram in 1879, as a home for women who are students, working, or in need. Today, the house is home to nineteen women of all ages and ethnicity who are active in the Salem area. The Society today carries out its mission through the operation of Emmerton House and support for other Salem organizations. Members participate through committees whose work ranges from knitting hats for premature babies to helping at Brookhouse, a historic Salem rest home for older women. Our biggest endeavor is maintaining and managing Emmerton House. Stepping Stones For Stella
Congrats to our recent winner of Cranney Cares, Stepping Stones For Stella! Stepping Stones for Stella is a non-profit organization whose mission is to “provide buggies to children with disabilities to ensure they and their families experience the joy and freedom of the great outdoors to its fullest”. Their buggies allow easy access to all types of outdoor environments that may require moving across sand, gravel, dirt, grass and even snow. Nicole Puzzo was inspired to start Stepping Stones for Stella after her daughter Stella who has Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy received a custom buggy made by her grandfather to make their beach trips easier. Once Stella received this buggy Nicole realized what a difference these buggies could make in the lives of other families and children who also have disabilities preventing them from enjoying time outside. Sammy’s Superheroes
Congrats to our June Cranney Cares winner, Sammy’s Superheroes! For many years Samantha Bouchard and her family have volunteered and walked the North Shore Medical Centers Cancer Walk every June. The team has raised thousands of dollars throughout their years of participating and have also been able to make an impact on their community by sharing their story and connection to the Cancer Walk and have been advocates for the medical center and their fundraising efforts year after year. All proceeds from the walk will be used for “a new surgical robot that will bring advanced technology for prostate cancer surgery as well as benefit oncology services at North Shore Mecial Center and the Mass/North Shore Cancer Center, such as clinical trials and wellness care”, according to the Medical Center. Each year, AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts partners with Ira Audi Quattro Cup to host a fabulous day of golf that raises critical funds and awareness for HIV/AIDS awareness on the North Shore. AIDS Action Committee is the state’s leading provider of prevention and wellness services for people living with and at risk of HIV/AIDS. AIDS Action works to stop the epidemic by eliminating new infections, maximizing healthier outcomes of those infected and at risk, and tackling the root causes of HIV/AIDS.

Sammy’s Superheroes
For many years Samantha Bouchard’s family has participated and helped sponsor the North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) Cancer Walk, but this year is a little different. Samantha was diagnosed with Stage II of Hodgkins Lymphoma. So on June 26, 2016 Sam, her family and her friends will participate in the North Shore Cancer WALK for Sammy’s Superheroes to support Samantha and to raise funds dedicated to the research of Hodgkins Lymphoma. It will be one superhero after another walking for a great cause!

Salem Jazz and Soul Festival
The Salem Jazz and Soul Festival is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that funds music education programs and produces free concerts for the public.
By recreating and renewing the vibrant jazz scene that began at the Salem Willows in the 1920s, when Duke Ellington and other musicians from the Big Band era played at the seaside park in Massachusetts. The festival builds on this rich jazz history, adding soul, blues and funk to the mix, by offering a series of annual free concerts to the public, concluding with a festival each year at the Salem Willows. The festival spotlights the wealth of talented musicians on Boston’s North Shore, and has already attracted thousands of music fans and extensive media coverage during its first four years of operation.

Ed Gieras Memorial Girls Basketball Tournament
The inaugural Ed Gieras Memorial Girls Basketball Tournament will be played at Danvers High School on Tuesday, Feb. 16 and Wednesday, Feb. 17.
Bishop Fenwick, Concord Carlisle, Reading and host Danvers will participate in the four-team tournament named for Gieras, the all-time leading scorer in Danvers High boys basketball history (1,024) who passed away this past April after a nine-year battle with Huntington’s Disease.

The Salem Children’s Charity
The Salem Children’s Charity was founded 22 years ago and continues to grow and give back to the kids of Salem. Teachers within the Salem School system are the eyes and ears that watch over Salem’s kids. Anything that is needed such as Winter boots and jackets to field trip fees to holiday groceries etc….all get taken care of, behind the scenes and without fanfare. Salem Youth Football and Cheering
Salem Youth Football and Cheering was established in 2011 out of a Pop Warner Football Program. It is a “Grade Based, Age Protected” youth football league. We have always believed that there is more to be learned from football than football itself. Although we all want to win, success is not measured in wins and losses but by the team’s ability to exemplify the core values of respect, integrity, cooperation, self-discipline, and sportsmanship. It is our goal to have SYF&C recognized for our sense of fair play, outstanding effort, and character. Over 220 Salem children are participating this season.

Cabot Performing Arts Center
Formed to save the historic Cabot Theater, the Cabot Performing Arts Center serves as a vibrant community center representing the heart of the Beverly downtown and an entertainment and arts resource for the entire North Shore. This widely supported non-profit organization presents a rich variety of great performances and world-class films over 350+ days per year in a friendly historic, and collaborative environment.

Cub Scout Program
Since its beginning, the Cub Scout program has been a fun and educational experience concerned with values. Besides providing a positive place where boys can enjoy safe, wholesome activities, Cub Scouting focuses on building character, improving physical fitness, teaching practical skills, and developing a spirit of community service.”
Salem Cub Scouts Pack 24 serves 25-30 boys, grades 1st through 5th and we are working to grow the program. Our boys meet as a den by grade and once a month as a pack with all grade levels and families. One of the boys’ favorite pack events is the Pinewood Derby. The boys build, cut and paint their own car, and then they race their cars. We also go on hikes, perform community service, like cleaning up Winter Island, camp, raise funds to send popcorn to the military and much more. For 25 years Spaulding Education Fund has been committed to advancing educational excellence in the Manchester Essex Regional Schools by providing funding for compelling initiatives that bring interest, innovation and excitement to the classroom. North Shore Cancer Walk
On Sunday morning, June 28, 2015, thousands of participants will join together with family members, colleagues and friends for the 25th Anniversary North Shore Cancer WALK. As a walker, volunteer or donor, you can be part of an inspirational day in the fight against cancer.
The 10K (6.2 mile) WALK route is an unforgettable journey of shared purpose and commitment. It winds through historic Salem, featuring an array of entertainers that lend a festive air to this profound community event. We encourage you to become a part of this annual celebration of life, hope and courage of all those who have been touched by this disease. Money raised from the North Shore Cancer WALK/RUN will support oncology services at North Shore Medical Center and the Mass General/North Shore Cancer Center in Danvers.

Run by the Christian Community Service Organization of North Reading, the pantry is located in the North Reading Town Hall and is open Monday mornings from 9-10 and on the 1st and 3rd Monday evenings from 7-8. North Shore United Way Inc. - Women in Action
In 2011, North Shore United Way launched a new branch with a unique purpose. That branch was the Women in Action, and their purpose is to address the childhood obesity epidemic in America. This is the first charity in North Shore dedicated to the cause. The Women in Action work to make healthier foods and opportunities for physical activity available to families and children in low-income areas where these issues are most pervasive. Relay for Life: Danvers Garden Club
The Cranney Cares for the Community winner of March 2014 is the Danvers Garden Club (DGC)! Pictured above (left to right) is Jane Dembrowski (Treasurer of the DGC), Sue Robertson (President of the DGC), Jessica Cranney (Chief Administrative Officer for Cranney Home Services) and Jacquie Cavanagh (First Vice President of the DGC). The Danvers Garden Club is a civic organization whose goal is to beautify the community through gardening. They maintain gardens at the Kaplan Hospice House, the Peabody Institute Library and many others. The DGC also sponsors the hanging baskets in the square, they decorate the town Christmas tree and a variety of other local projects. They meet monthly at the local nursing homes to design floral arrangements with the residents and they have a Junior Gardening group who meets regularly to foster the love of gardening!
